BETA TC collaborates with the Lactium Cheese Fair in Vic
This 2021 the event will be focused on sustainability of the sector
The BETA Technology Center will have the opportunity to collaborate in two of the most emblematic activities of this year’s Lactium Cheese Fair, which will take place on 22 and 23 May at the Parc Jaume Balmes in Vic. Joan Colón, the coordinator of the Sustainability Accounting & Optimization Line of the BETA Center, will be part of the jury of the Cheese Lactium Competition, which for the first time incorporates sustainability criteria into its 13 categories.
On the other hand, the CT BETA will have a prominent participation in the program of the technical day for cheese producers, which will precisely be held under the title “Cheese and sustainability, challenges and opportunities”. The program of the day will give the opportunity to researchers of the CT BETA to expose the work done in the last years thanks to European projects like the POCTEFA INNOTRANSLACT or in the demonstrative projects of the Catalan Government, that have allowed to develop and to demonstrate the utility of tools like the CalcPEFDairy. CalcPEFDairy is a tool for calculating Environmental Product Footprints designed for the dairy sector and aligned with European requirements that in the future must facilitate environmental certification and eco-labeling processes.
After last year’s compulsory shutdown, the Lactium fair, co-organized by Vic City Council and ACREFA, the Catalan Association of Cattlemen and Artisan Cheese Producers, resumes its activity in 2021 with sustainability as one of the its main thematic axes.
