03Sustainable Food & Farming Systems

Moving towards more resilient agricultural systems that are adapted to climate change.

This unit works to increase the resilience of agricultural systems, developing strategies to adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change on agriculture and promoting the circular bioeconomy to ensure food security and improve soil health.

It stands out for having a holistic view of agricultural challenges, including aspects such as the prevention of soil pollution due to over-fertilisation, the formulation of tailor-made fertilisers and biostimulants from nutrient sources recovered from agri-food waste, or the assessment of ecosystem services, including soil carbon sequestration, water retention, erosion control and soil nutrient fluxes.

It also focuses specifically on the implementation of management strategies that improve the resilience of agrosystems in the Mediterranean region, through the restoration of degraded soils, regenerative agriculture, agroforestry systems, perennial crops or mixed farming.

We work to increase the resilience of agricultural systems, fostering the circular bioeconomy.
Our research focuses on aspects such as soil carbon sequestration, water retention, erosion control and soil nutrient flows.
