Circular Bioeconomy of Proximity
Valorisation of livestock manure and other organic amendments for the improvement of soil and productivity in wine-growing farms

Total project budget: 96900,47€

Start Date: 01/09/2022
End Date: 30/09/2024
The Circular Bioeconomy of Proximity project combines the need to valorise and export livestock manure and other organic amendments from areas with a high density of livestock and a high concentration of agri-food industries, and the important need that the wine sector currently has to fertilise its fields with organic fertilisers, due to all the benefits they bring to the soil, the crop and the environment in general. The project seeks to promote the circular bioeconomy in Catalonia by using livestock manure and other organic amendments from the agri-food industry to improve the soil and productivity of Catalan wine farms.
In order to carry out the project, the following specific objectives are proposed:
- To define the ideal parameters in different treatments for the valorisation of organic waste and by-products from the agro-livestock industry, including livestock manure, in order to obtain high quality organic fertilisers.
- Characterise organic fertilisers suitable for conventional and organic production obtained from livestock manure and other organic wastes and by-products from agro-industry.
- To evaluate agronomically the in situ fertilisation with conventional and organic fertilisers in vine cultivation.
- To analyse the technical and economic feasibility of creating a pilot technical advisory service on organic fertilisation to boost the circular bioeconomy of Catalan wine-growing operations.
- To study the technical, economic and environmental viability of organic fertilisation in organic and conventional vineyards.
