Dr. Oscar Martínez Avila is chemical engineer, MSc in chemical engineering, MSc in renewable energy, and PhD in environmental science and technology. He has a strong background in diverse specialized analytical techniques, and his main expertise is the use of solid-state technology (enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation) as a valorization strategy. His research is focused on the development of bioprocesses to obtain high value-added products of industrial interest by using renewable sources, particularly, starting from solid organic residues as raw materials. During the last years he has worked with microalgae culturing, anaerobic digestion and composting of waste streams, and with solid-state fermentation (SSF) for obtaining products such as enzymes, aroma compounds, base chemicals, bioplastics, biostimulants, and polysaccharides.
