ROMERO POLO

Livestock manure as material for road construction

Dey-asfalto
The project will outline the practices for the total or partial replacement of asphalt oil-based materials
  • Grant agreement ID: 846/P001

  • Start Date: 01/06/2020

    End Date: 01/06/2022

Within the framework of its commitment to reach a sustainable and circular economy, Romero Polo leads the DEY-ASFALTO research project to replace the traditional oil-based asphalt binders using other biomaterials. The initiative is funded by the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI), a public entity under the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO), and will be developed together with three leading universities, including the BETA Technological Centre.

The project will last two years and will outline the practices for the total or partial replacement of asphalt oil-based materials that are currently used in Catalonia by other ecological ones obtained from livestock manure. With this transformation, the environmental problems associated with the use of oil-based products are addressed, offering, at the same time, an outlet for waste of animal origin that currently pose a serious problem for the territory.
