Air quality is critical for animal welfare, health and productivity in closed buildings with limited living space such as pig houses. Temperature, humidity, ammonia (NH3), carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen sulphide (H2S) concentrations are the most important environmental factors in intensive pig farming.
The aim of this demonstration project is to transfer the knowledge generated at the BETA Technology Centre on sustainable technology applied to livestock farming through the development and subsequent validation of an open source technological system for monitoring environmental conditions and gas concentration in pig farms.
The prototype will be validated in a pig farm under real conditions. With this technological solution, farmers will have the opportunity to generate data that can be used to improve livestock living conditions, data useful for the optimisation of production processes and data that can be shared to optimise good practices in livestock management.
Activity funded through the Technology Transfer Operation 01.02.01 of the Rural Development Programme of Catalonia 2014-2020.
