Start Date: 15/11/2024
End Date: 31/05/2026
The BATPORC project aims to evaluate the implementation of best available techniques (BAT) or their combinations to reduce ammonia emissions in pig manure storage systems under Mediterranean climate conditions. This issue is critical for the livestock sector due to the environmental impact of ammonia emissions and the need to adopt effective mitigation strategies.
To achieve this objective, the project will develop a pilot-scale sampling system to obtain representative data on the effectiveness of the applied techniques. Additionally, the proposed BAT will be demonstrated and validated to reduce ammonia emissions in different scenarios, including real pig farming facilities. The impact of slurry pit emptying on the efficiency of these techniques will also be analyzed, and a technical advisory guide will be developed to support decision-making in the sector.
The project is coordinated by INNOVACC and involves the participation of YAK FÀBRICA DE PINSOS COMPOSTS S.L., SELECCIÓN BATALLÉ S.A., ASSOCIACIÓ CATALANA DE PRODUCTORS DE PORCÍ, and GRUP GEPORK S.A. This initiative will contribute to the sustainability of the pig farming sector through the implementation of innovative and efficient solutions for reducing pollutant emissions.
Project co-financed by the European Union through intervention 7161 of the Strategic Plan for the CAP (PEPAC) 2023-2027.
