The AquaBalance project  promotes a pioneering water compensation strategy in Catalonia that complements traditional efficiency and helps the industry move towards sustainability. The project analyses international strategies and cases as a basis for study and, in addition, maps potential projects in the territory, identifies existing barriers to their implementation and defines a network of key actors.

It also develops a digital tool for companies to calculate their compensation potential and plan effective actions. In order to validate the real criteria and priorities of the business fabric, consultations will be carried out with the companies in the CWP end-user working group. In this way, the usefulness and applicability of the tool in real environments can be ensured to a greater extent.

With the participation of CWP, Veolia, Circular Carbon, the Beta TC and Eurecat, the project seeks to generate knowledge, create a repository of good practices, establish technical criteria and validate solutions with water-intensive users. AquaBalance wants to position Catalonia as a European benchmark, opening up business opportunities, strengthening water resilience and promoting projects. In addition, to propose a pioneering framework that introduces the concept of water credits, and that can return to society and the environment volumes of water equivalent to part of consumption.
