This project aims to develop and implement more functional food packaging solutions using agricultural and aquacultural waste streams. Led by 14 organisations from Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Greece, Türkiye, Tunisia and Morocco, the project will advance bio intelligent packaging materials, meeting customer needs and market requirements in the EU and the Maghreb.
In addition, the final product will be supported by AI/IoT-assisted food value chain intelligence and decision support systems aimed at optimizing food safety, traceability, environmental effects, sustainability, as well as cost-effectiveness in Mediterranean settings.
This initiative aligns with the priorities of the PRIMA 2023 Research and Innovation action call, aiming to assess novel antimicrobial food packaging and coating materials to reduce food waste and improve safety in the Mediterranean food supply chain.
