MITIGA-FERT

Design and development of new business models to promote sustainable management of the livestock manure value chain

The MITIGA-FERT project seeks a sustainable business model to transform pig manure into fertiliser, reducing emissions and management costs.
  • Total project budget: 256.848,60 €

  • Start Date: 15/11/2024

    End Date: 31/03/2026

Livestock production plays a crucial role in food supply, but its environmental impact, particularly in terms of emissions generation and inadequate waste management, poses major challenges. It is therefore key to find business models that provide continuity in the value chain of animal waste to valorise its nutrient content, minimising associated emissions and management costs.

The objective of the MITIGA-FERT project is to design a technically, economically and environmentally sustainable business model for the formulation and commercialisation of fertilisers from pig manure treated with Best Available Techniques (BAT).

Taking into account the problems, needs and challenges of the pig farming sector, agriculture and the fertiliser industry, projects such as this one will allow a more efficient management of the manure, mitigating the emissions generated in the value chain of the manure and reducing the logistical costs associated with this management.
