The FOODTURE initiative aims to drive sustainability and innovation in the European food sector by enhancing Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies and engaging stakeholders to create a resilient, circular food value chain. It emphasizes transparency and open access, conducting research on precision agriculture and environmental stewardship to reduce pollution and improve impact assessments. FOODTURE delivers 16 key results, including comprehensive Life Cycle Inventories (LCIs) of EU food systems, improved Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA) methodologies, system-level impact analyses that assess trade-offs and synergies across environmental, social, economic, animal welfare, and human health factors, as well as policy briefs, open-access tools, and training sessions to help stakeholders integrate LCAs into daily operations. The project actively involves all actors in the food value chain at every stage, ensuring collaborative action and innovation. By prioritizing zero pollution and regionalized environmental impact assessments, FOODTURE sets a new standard for holistic food system management, driving meaningful progress toward a more sustainable and resilient European food system.
