Digitalisation of Citizen Science Programmes: Tools to Advance Knowledge of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity

The project will help strengthen knowledge and governance regarding natural heritage and provide essential data for biodiversity conservation and for advancing progress toward the goals of the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030.
  • Start Date: 01/10/2025

    End Date: 30/09/2027

The project aims to standardize and publish wildlife monitoring data, ensure open access, and improve interoperability with national and international platforms. It will work with citizen science data from butterfly (CBMS), small mammal (SEMICE), and bat (BatMonitoring) monitoring projects in Catalonia.

Key actions include validating data according to open standards such as Darwin Core and INSPIRE; developing reusable data models; publishing data on platforms like GBIF and CORA; and creating digital tools and services, such as new data validation modules and an API for data querying and export.

The project will help strengthen knowledge and governance regarding natural heritage and provide essential data for biodiversity conservation and for advancing progress toward the goals of the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030.
