DIGEVA

Treatment of digestate through vacuum evaporation for the production of nutrient-rich concentrates, valorized as fertilizer products, and high-quality recovered water

The main objective is to obtain nutrient-rich concentrates with agronomic value and recovered water, demonstrating the technical and economic feasibility of this technology as a sustainable solution for the biogas sector

The DIGEVA project addresses the efficient management of digestate through the application of vacuum evaporation technology to treat its liquid fraction, which accounts for 80% to 90% of the total mass after solid-liquid separation. The main objective is to obtain nutrient-rich concentrates with agronomic value and recovered water, demonstrating the technical and economic feasibility of this technology as a sustainable solution for the biogas sector.

To achieve this goal, the project implements and optimizes a pilot vacuum evaporation plant to treat digestates from different sources. Additionally, it evaluates the quality of the obtained products, including the valorization of nutrient-rich concentrates as liquid organic fertilizers, additives for composting, or ingredients for tailor-made fertilizers. Furthermore, the project assesses the potential reuse of the recovered water for industrial and agricultural purposes.

The project is coordinated by the Cluster of Bioenergy of Catalonia and involves the participation of MUNS AGROINDUSTRIAL S.L., TORRE SANTAMARIA S.C.C.L., and CORPORACIÓN ALIMENTARIA GUISSONA S.A. Through this collaboration, DIGEVA contributes to the transition towards a circular bioeconomy, promoting efficient organic waste management and reducing the environmental impact associated with renewable energy production.

Project co-financed by the European Union through intervention 7161 of the Strategic Plan for the CAP (PEPAC) 2023-2027.
