Project Summary

Biofertilizers and other complementary agricultural products such as soil improvers, pesticides, and biostimulants have played a relevant role in the search of a balance between efficient land use, improving yields, and obtaining high-quality products while minimizing the impacts of agricultural practices on human health and the environment. In that context, the AGRI-PROSUME project intends to address the production of three selected groups of biostimulants of proven interest for the agricultural sector from a waste valorization perspective as a novel alternative for traditional processing systems. Thus, this project aims to obtain protein hydrolysates (PH), plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria biomass (PGPR), and bacterial exopolysaccharides (EPS) using solid organic wastes and by-products of the agri-food industry as low-cost raw materials. It is proposed to use solid-state technology (enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation) as a potential alternative to process such raw materials to produce these biostimulants economically and sustainably. The acronym of the project itself reflects the idea behind the project for promoting both an alternative way to PROVIDE products needed in the agricultural sector and to CONSUME the products derived from this sector.

Our role in the project

AGRI-PROSUME is fully executed by BETA Tech Center, and it is founded by the 2020 I+D call of Agencia Estatal de Investigación. In this project, the BETA Tech Center puts all its experience in using solid-state technology to advance in the use of local by-products and wastes generated in the agri-food sector to foster the development of a circular economy scheme with those materials. By doing this, BETA Tech Center is looking to contribute to the local industry by providing new technological solutions to the emerging challenges such industries currently face.
