DestiMED PLUS project, finalist in the European Natura 2000 Awards
The winners will be announced during the Natura 2000 Awards ceremony, which will take place next May.
The DestiMED PLUS project, in which the BETA Technological Centre of UVic-UCC participates, is one of the 21 finalists in the European Natura 2000 awards, in the category of Socioeconomic Benefits. The Natura 2000 awards, which this year reach their 6th edition, reward excellence in the management of Natura 2000 areas and highlight the added value of nature conservation for local communities and economies in the European Union.
The aim of DestiMED PLUS is to support Mediterranean regions to develop, manage and promote ecotourism in their nature parks. This project involves 8 Natura 2000 conservation areas located in 5 different Mediterranean countries (Croatia, France, Greece, Spain and Italy), including the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park. CT BETA leads the development of indicators and tools for the socio-economic evaluation of ecotourism products with the aim of generating, through tourism, positive socio-economic impacts on the local community, workers, the value chain and tourists.
The winners of the Natura 2000 awards are chosen by the public and anyone who wants to vote for the DestiMED PLUS project can do so through this link until 27 April. The winners will be announced during the Natura 2000 Awards ceremony in May.
