CT BETA participates in a new edition of the BIT Congress in Vic, dedicated to water and agroforestry systems

The BIT is an event that takes place every year simultaneously in Vic and Lleida.

This week Vic hosted a new edition of the BIT Congress, an event of reference in Catalonia in the field of bioeconomy that, once again, has had the support of the BETA Technology Centre of the UVic-UCC in its organisation. On this occasion, the two central themes from which the programme was designed were the improvement of water management and the contribution of agroforestry systems to the resilience of the landscape. Several representatives of CT BETA have taken part in the activities and round tables that have been carried out, especially presenting experiences related to the improvement of water cycle management in the agri-food sector.

CT BETA had a permanent presence at the Sucre building in Vic, where the BIT Congress was held, occupying a stand where you can find general information about the centre, next to various panels explaining some of the projects in which the centre is working in the field of water and agroforestry systems. This is the case of European projects, such as TRANSITION or LIFE BIODAPH20, but also of small projects of operational groups with companies included in the Catalan Rural Development Plan, such as REAQUA, LEMNA and others in which the centre has worked together with the meat sector to optimise water purification.

As regards the main programme of activities of the BIT Congress, Lídia Paredes, researcher at CT BETA, spoke about the potential uses of reclaimed or reclaimed water and the limitations that can affect this possibility. Esther Vega, also a researcher at CT BETA, took part in a round table on technologies related to the water cycle from a local perspective, aimed specifically at local and regional economic promotion technicians. For his part, the director of CT BETA, Sergio Ponsá, took part in an activity organised by the Sustainability Club of the Osona Business Council.

A benchmark congress

The BIT is an event that takes place every year simultaneously in Vic and Lleida, promoted by the City Council of Vic, the Fira de Lleida and the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

This congress was created in 2022 with the aim of promoting the transformation of the primary sector, encouraging the incorporation of business strategies and technological innovations that allow a more efficient, healthy and environmentally friendly production of food and bioproducts.
