AGRI-PROSUME, a new project funded by the national R&D program

It will work to produce sustainable biostimulants from agri-food waste

The AGRI-PROSUME project deals with the production of three types of biostimulants of agricultural interest through the recovery of waste. This research is expecting to obtain protein hydrolysates, biomass of rhizobacteria that promote plant growth and extracellular polysaccharides of bacterial origin, starting from organic waste and by-products of the agri-food industry as a low-cost raw material.

AGRI-PROSUME proposes the use of solid state technology (enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation) as a potential alternative to produce these biostimulants, a technology with which the BETA Technological Center has already experience from previous projects.

The acronym of the project reflects its purpose: to promote an alternative when supplying (PROVIDE) demanding products to the agricultural sector and, at the same time, to consume (CONSUME) the products that originate in the same sector. AGRI-PROSUME will provide a new perspective in the production and/or obtaining of biostimulants by overcoming some of the difficulties that appear in conventional processes. At the same time, it will offer low-cost systems with limited water and energy consumption capable to transform waste into commercial biostimulants.

The project has been funded by the most important call in the field of research in Spain, managed by the Agencia Estatal de Investigación.
