Recently, western economies have recognized the need to do a transition to become “regenerative economies”. According to the European Green Deal there is an extensive need to boost the efficient use of resources by moving to a clean, circular economy to stop climate change, reverse biodiversity loss, and cut pollution.
For decades, universities have been stimulating economic growth through industrially relevant research, technology commercialization, high-tech spin-offs, and developing talent. REGENU addresses the need for innovation in higher education institutions (HEIs) and training systems for youth through identifying, developing, and testing innovative educational approaches that have the potential to become part of regular HEI curriculums and thus set the ground for the green transition through education and training.
Through innovative and entrepreneurial learning approaches, REGENU will tackle the challenge of climate change and the need for a systemic implementation of the European Green Deal through the development of business models that move from an extractive model towards a regenerative model of the economy.
With the challenges in mind, the project will work towards the following objectives.
- EQUIP HEI stakeholders (staff, professors, researchers, and students) with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and tools and mechanisms on the regenerative economy
- ENGAGE stakeholders in the university-industry-government-civil society (quadruple helix) collaboration model with a focus on sustainable renewable green policies and actions to increase support to sustainable regenerative economy solutions by
- EMPOWER professors, researchers, students, knowledge transfer professionals, and policymakers to turn innovative ideas and creative policy opportunities into applicable, renewable, sustainable and marketable solutions.
