Despite notable improvements in waste collection, treatment, disposal, prevention, control and recycling in recent years, municipal solid waste and food waste remain critical challenges across most Mediterranean countries. Participatory processes are rarely applied to waste management, with businesses and citizens typically not being actively involved.
Through five pilot actions in municipalities across Spain, Italy, Turkey, Jordan and Tunisia, Gov4GreenMed will design territorial participatory methodologies on municipal solid waste management and food waste policies. The aim of these initiatives is to foster effective cooperation between local public authorities and various stakeholders, as well as improving the development of local governance models.
Ultimately, the goal is to facilitate the implementation of shared public services, enhance citizens’ quality of life, and promote the green transition of Mediterranean municipalities.
Partnership: BETA Technological Centre (UVic-UCC), Medcities, COSPE (Cooperation for the Development of Emerging Countries), CITET (Centre Internacional des Technologies et de l’Environment de Tunis), Future Pioneers, Antalya Metropolitan Municipality.
