Katharina Duran is a food biotechnologist with expertise in lignocellulosic biomass conversion. She is currently transitioning into sustainability assessment for food and agricultural systems as a member of the Sustainability Accounting and Optimization team at BETA TC. Her academic background includes a BSc in Food and Biotechnology from BOKU University, Vienna, and an MSc in Food Technology from Wageningen University & Research (The Netherlands). During her PhD at Wageningen University, she investigated the biomass conversion capabilities of Agaricus bisporus (white button mushroom), focusing on lignin metabolism. Following her PhD, she worked as a researcher at Wageningen University & Research, where she conducted contract research in fungal biotechnology.
