Irene Abad

Researcher

Irene Abad holds a degree in Environmental Biology and an MSc in Conservation Biology. Her research focuses on the ecology and biology of butterflies through the Catalan Butterfly Monitoring Scheme (CBMS).

She currently coordinates the citizen science project Butterfly Gardens (Jardins de Papallones), an initiative that aims to help reverse butterfly declines in Catalonia and enhance biodiversity in urban and peri-urban environments by creating butterfly-friendly habitats. The project also includes a monitoring programme for butterflies and other pollinators, contributing to a better understanding of these insects in human-modified landscapes.
