The MED GreenGrowth Community participates in the ‘Forum des Mondes Méditerranéens’
It is a high-level event, organized by the Presidency of the French Republic
The MED GreenGrowth Community, coordinated by the BETA TC of the UVic-UCC since 2016, has actively participated this week in the Forum des Mondes Méditerranéens, which took place in Marseille. It is a high-level event, organized by the Presidency of the French Republic, which has had the participation of a wide variety of social actors from all over the Mediterranean region. The main objective of this forum was to create debate and work on concrete solutions that would help to face the common challenges of all the territories of this region.
One of the community’s partners, the ANIMA Investment Network, was responsible for organising a Business Networking session. This session has raised various topics, such as how to boost trade in the Mediterranean, how to improve economic attractiveness, and how to encourage new innovative and sustainable industries, among others.
In this session, Mercè Boy Roura, researcher at CT BETA, spoke on behalf of the MED Green Growth Community to highlight the importance of the transition to the circular economy through innovation. Many interventions served to emphasise the will of the Mediterranean territories to take advantage of the crisis of covid to consolidate new opportunities, and that these should definitively incorporate new criteria of sustainability and environmental protection.
MED Green Growth is a thematic community of Interreg MED, which promotes the green and circular economy in the Mediterranean region by improving cross-sectoral innovation practices. The community connects 14 projects, involving 165 entities from 13 Mediterranean countries. Its activity has been recognised by the Union for the Mediterranean for its potential to advance cooperation in the transition to a green, circular and inclusive economy.
