Job description

The BETA Technology Centre is formed by a young multidisciplinary team of 90 researchers, and is looking for a dynamic, responsible and eager to be part of this project. We are looking for a technician for the instrumental analysis laboratory, who will carry out both sample preparation and processing. He/she will also participate in the maintenance of the analysis equipment and in the development of new analytical methods and protocols.

The BETA Technology Centre has grown exponentially since its creation at the end of 2014. In addition, since March 2021 the BETA Centre has moved to a new building with more than 800 m2 of laboratory and pilot plant spaces. Within these new spaces, the instrumental analysis laboratory is a key part and currently has the following instrumentation: gas chromatographs (with ECD, FID, MS and TCD detectors), liquid chromatographs (HPLC and IC), CHN elemental analysers, and flame atomic absorption spectroscopy.

Functions and duties:

  • Maintenance and calibration of equipment in the instrumental analysis laboratory.
  • Development of new analytical methods and protocols.
  • Treatment and characterisation of samples.
  • Support for the execution of R+D+i projects.
  • Training of new research staff in the use of instrumental analysis equipment.

Requirements

Decree on the homologation of the qualifications of Research Teaching Staff and Administration and Services Staff

According to the Royal Decree 899/2022, the people who apply to the calls for Research Teaching Staff (PDI) and/or Administration and Services Staff (PAS) must present the homologation of the degrees issued abroad, as this is the one that enables the exercise of a regulated profession in Spain.

The group of Research Staff is exempt from this resolution.

  • Advanced vocational training or equivalent in chemistry or analysis laboratory.
  • Accreditation of Catalan proficiency level (Level C1) or be in a position to obtain it.
  • Accreditation of level B2 in English or be in a position to obtain it.
  • Knowledge of instrumental analysis (liquid and gas chromatography, atomic absorption spectroscopy, etc.).

Merits

  • University Degree in: Degree or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry.
  • Master’s degree or PhD in analytical chemistry or similar.
  • Previous work in other chemical analysis laboratories, preferably in the environmental field.
