Job description
The BETA Technology Center is made up of a young, multidisciplinary team of more than 90 researchers and seeks to incorporate a dynamic person who wants to be part of this adventure. We are looking for a senior technician with experience in techniques for assessing greenhouse gas emissions attributed to agricultural activity due to certain fertilization practices, and soil and crop management. The candidate will become part of the Sustainable Agricultural and Food Systems Unit of the BETA Technology Centre of the UVic.
The selected person will participate in several European and national projects related to the determination of greenhouse gas emissions according to agricultural management carried out in the soil. Specifically, the selected person will have a relevant role in the European project NENUPHAR funded by the European Commission, where he will work mainly on the capture of greenhouse gases that are produced from agricultural soil after the application of different fertilizers.
• Fine-tuning of the protocol for the capture of greenhouse gases from the ground: CO2 and N2O.
• Field sampling of greenhouse gas emissions due to agricultural activity.
• Planning and execution of field experiments: experimental design, sampling, sampling, etc.
• Development of new soil analysis methodologies.
• Technical management of competitive R&D projects with multiple actors.
• Participation in the preparation of new project proposals to attract new funding.
Requirements
Spanish Decree on recognition of qualifications of teaching and research staff, and service staff
According to Spanish Royal Decree 889/2022, those who apply for teaching and research staff (PDI) or service staff (PAS) posts should have any qualifications issued abroad officially recognised in Spain, since such approval qualifies for the exercise of regulated professions in Spain. Research-only staff are exempt from this requirement.

Vocational training: Advanced vocational training course or equivalent in fields related to the subject of the call for applications.

Certification of Level C1 in Catalan or commitment to obtain it.

Accreditation of Level B2 English or commitment to obtain it.

Experience in the agricultural sector having worked in the field of soil science, determination of greenhouse gases, fertilization, soil nutrient dynamics or similar

Experience with agricultural practices to improve the application of fertilizers in the soil and in precision fertilization.

Experience in field trials and collaboration with multiple actors.

Scientific publications in the proposed field of research.

Good communication skills (written and oral) and ability to work independently and with internal and external teams in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments.
Merits
• University degree qualification: Agronomy, Soil Science, Geography, Biotechnology, Plant Production, Environmental Sciences or similar
• PhD in agronomy, geography, edaphology, biotechnology or similar
• Knowledge of digital agriculture and/or precision agriculture and experience in GIS (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIs)
• Previous experience in the preparation and execution of competitive R+D projects (Horizon Europe, LIFE, Interreg, etc.).
