Description:
The BETA Technology Center is made up of a young multidisciplinary team of more than 80 researchers and seeks to incorporate a dynamic person who wants to be part of this adventure. We are looking for a senior technician with experience in fertilization techniques that reduce the loss of nutrients in agricultural soil, take care of soil health and do not reduce crop productivity. The candidate will become part of the Sustainable Agricultural and Food Systems Unit of the BETA Technology Centre of the UVIC.
The selected person will participate in several European and national projects related to improving the fertilization of agricultural soils in order to reduce nutrient loss and increase soil health.
Specifically, it will play an important role in the European projects GREENHOOD and I3-4BIOFERTILIZERS funded by the European Commission where it will work mainly on the application and evaluation of the effect in the field of different biofertilizer products obtained from nutrients recovered from waste from the agri-food industry. The activities of the two projects will be carried out in fields located in the regions of Segrià and La Noguera in the province of Lleida.

 

Functions and duties:
• Participation in the development of fertilization strategies in order to evaluate the agronomic impact of the use of biofertilizers developed in the two projects.
• Collaboration in the planning and execution of experiments in greenhouses and fields.
• Participation in the planning and execution of physicochemical and microbiological laboratory tests to determine the state of the soil
• Development of new soil analysis methodologies
• Technical management of competitive R&D projects with multiple actors
• Participation in the preparation of new project proposals to attract new funding

Requirements

Spanish Decree on recognition of qualifications of teaching and research staff, and service staff

According to Spanish Royal Decree 889/2022, those who apply for teaching and research staff (PDI) or service staff (PAS) posts should have any qualifications issued abroad officially recognised in Spain, since such approval qualifies for the exercise of regulated professions in Spain. Research-only staff are exempt from this requirement.

  • Vocational training: Ciclo formativo de grado superior en ámbitos relacionados con el objeto de la convocatoria.
  • Certification of Level C1 in Catalan or commitment to obtain it.
  • Accreditation of Level B2 English or commitment to obtain it.
  • Experience in the agricultural sector having worked in the field of soil science, fertilization, nutrient dynamics or similar.
  • Experience with agricultural practices to improve the application of fertilizers in the soil and in precision fertilization.
  • Experience in field trials and collaboration with multiple actors.
  • Scientific publications in the proposed field of research.
  • Good communication skills (written and oral) and ability to work independently and with internal and external teams in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments.

Merits

• University qualification: Agronomy, Soil Science, Geography, Biotechnology, Plant Production, Environmental Sciences or similar
• PhD in agronomy, geography, edaphology, biotechnology or similar
• Knowledge of digital agriculture and/or precision agriculture and experience in GIS (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIs)
• Previous experience in the preparation and execution of competitive R&D projects (Horizon Europe, LIFE, Interreg, etc.).
