The BETA Technology Center is made up of a young multidisciplinary team of more than 100 researchers and is looking to incorporate a dynamic person who wants to be part of this adventure. We are looking for a Senior Technician with experience in agricultural practices (regenerative, resilient landscapes, etc.) that increase carbon capture in the soil and biodiversity, who will become part of the Sustainable Agricultural and Food Systems Unit of the BETA Technology Center of the UVIC.
The selected person will participate in several European and national projects related to carbon capture in the soil and the increase in organic matter. Specifically, the candidate will have a relevant role in the European CARBON FARMING MED project (Interreg Med) and in the MERCO2-CAT project funded by the Climate Fund of the Generalitat de Catalunya. Both projects will mainly work on testing, monitoring and evaluating different regenerative agriculture practices in important crops in the Catalan territory in order to determine their potential to store carbon in the soil.
Functions and tasks:
• Development of strategies to increase carbon capture in the soil.
• Planning and execution of field experiments.
• Planning and execution of physicochemical and microbiological laboratory tests to determine soil quality.
• Determination of the impact that new practices have on the biodiversity of the agricultural system.
• Development of new soil analysis methodologies.
• Technical management of competitive R&D projects with multiple actors.
• Participation in the development of new project proposals to attract new funding.
Requirements
Spanish Decree on recognition of qualifications of teaching and research staff, and service staff
According to Spanish Royal Decree 889/2022, those who apply for teaching and research staff (PDI) or service staff (PAS) posts should have any qualifications issued abroad officially recognised in Spain, since such approval qualifies for the exercise of regulated professions in Spain. Research-only staff are exempt from this requirement.
- Title: Training cycle of higher degree or equivalent in areas related to the object of the call.
- Certification of Level C1 in Catalan or commitment to obtain it.
- Accreditation of Level B2 English or commitment to obtain it.
- Experience in the agricultural sector having worked in the field of edaphology, fertilization, biodiversity, soil nutrient dynamics or similar
- Experience with agricultural practices to increase carbon capture in the soil and in remote sensing
- Experience in field trials and collaboration with multiple actors
- Scientific publications in the proposed research area
- Good communication skills (written and oral) and ability to work independently and with internal and external teams in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments
Merits
• University qualification: Agronomy, Soil Science, Geography, Biotechnology, Plant Production, Environmental Sciences or similar
• Doctorate in agronomy, geography, edaphology, biotechnology or similar
• Knowledge of digital agriculture and/or precision agriculture and experience in GIS (eg, ArcGIS, QGIs)
