Job description

The BETA Technology Center is formed by a young multidisciplinary team of 90 researchers, and is looking for a dynamic person with leadership skills and eager to be part of this project. We are looking for a person with knowledge in sustainability assessment (environmental, economic and social) of products and processes. The candidate will join the research line of “sustainability accounting and optimization” working on tasks related to sustainability assessment (life cycle, cost and social analysis) of technologies and processes developed in the framework of several European projects as well as transfer projects with companies. The candidate will also collaborate in the preparation of new proposals for new funding.

Functions and duties:

  • Execution of tasks related to sustainability assessment and optimization in competitive projects: environmental, economic and social sustainability.
  • Participation and execution in transfer and consulting projects with companies (both nationally and internationally). Preparation of Environmental Product Declarations, Carbon Footprints (product and organization, etc.), non-financial statements, etc.
  • Participation in the preparation of new proposals for new financing.

Requirements

Spanish Decree on recognition of qualifications of teaching and research staff, and service staff

According to Spanish Royal Decree 889/2022, those who apply for teaching and research staff (PDI) or service staff (PAS) posts should have any qualifications issued abroad officially recognised in Spain, since such approval qualifies for the exercise of regulated professions in Spain. Research-only staff are exempt from this requirement.

  • Higher Level Training Cycle in the field of chemistry, biotechnology, biology, environmental sciences or similar.
  • Certification of Level C1 in Catalan or commitment to obtain it.
  • Accreditation of Level B2 English or commitment to obtain it.
  • Previous participation in competitive research projects.
  • Knowledge of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology and advanced mastery of LCA software, especially OpenLCA (also Gabi and/or SimaPro).

Merits

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, biotechnology, biology, environmental sciences or similar.
  • Knowledge of Cost Cycle Analysis and Social Life Cycle Analysis.
  • Knowledge of circularity indicators.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and VBA.
