Job description

The BETA Technology Centre is a high-impact, technology transfer centre dedicated to improving society through technological innovation in the agri-food and circular bio-economy sectors, with a particular focus on the development of rural areas and sustainability.
It comprises a young, multidisciplinary team of over 140 researchers and is seeking to recruit a dynamic individual with leadership skills who is keen to be part of this project.
We are seeking a Specialist Technician in software development, digitalisation and AI.
The successful candidate will join the Green Digital Transition unit and will be involved in various highly innovative technological projects at the centre, taking responsibility for the development of digital solutions (applications, AI, etc.) in the fields of sustainability, research, innovation and technology transfer.

 

Functions and duties:
• Leading and organising a team of programmers.
• Managing teams of staff.
• Responsible for digital infrastructure and services.
• Involvement in the conceptualisation, definition and design of application architecture.
• Providing technical advice on the integration of AI and digitalisation solutions into projects.
• Identifying opportunities for automation and process improvement through emerging technologies.
• Leadership, strategic thinking and innovation in the field of digitalisation for sustainability.
• Co-development of front-end systems and interface usability.
• Co-development of back-end systems and API architecture.
• Database management.
• Programming and code writing.
• Deployment of the web application.
• Preparation of documentation for end users of the developed software.

Requirements

Decree on recognition of qualifications of teaching and research staff and professional services staff

According to Spanish Royal Decree 889/2022, recognition of qualifications issued abroad qualifies for the exercise of regulated professions in Spain.

If you apply for a professional services staff (PTGAS) post without the required recognised university degree, you may submit a declaration of equivalence of your degree in Spain, together with a translation of the degree into Spanish. The application for this declaration is also valid, subject to a commitment to submit the declaration of equivalence itself within a period of 3 years at most. If the requirement is not met within this period, the contract will be terminated in accordance with Article 49 (b) of Spanish Royal Legislative Decree 2/2015, of 23rd October, approving the revised text of the Workers’ Statute.

If you hold a recognised Spanish master’s degree, you may qualify for hiring, but this will not exempt you from the requirement to submit a declaration of equivalence of the qualification in the call.

If you submit a non-university qualification, when call provisions allow for this, you should include recognition of the qualification in accordance with the specific regulatory framework of the country of origin.

  • Title: A degree or bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Technical Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Telecommunications, Environmental Sciences or other subjects relevant to the purpose of this call for applications.
  • Certification of Level C1 in Catalan or commitment to obtain it.
  • Accreditation of Level B2 English or commitment to obtain it.
  • Advanced knowledge of one of the following programming languages (JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, etc.)
  • Knowledge of relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.)
  • Knowledge of DevOps, containerisation and cloud computing (Docker, CI/CD, pipelines, Azure, AWS, GCP, etc.)
  • Five years’ demonstrable experience in software development.
  • Knowledge of DevOps, containerisation (Docker), CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation, particularly in the cloud (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Leadership, mentoring and technical communication skills with stakeholders.

Merits

• Knowledge of a JavaScript front-end framework (particularly Vue3).
• Knowledge of specific Python packages (e.g. Pandas, NumPy, Flask).
• Experience working on projects using continuous integration.
• Experience integrating AI and process automation.
• Experience with agile methodologies and digital transformation.
• Basic knowledge of sustainability, life-cycle analysis, carbon footprints or similar topics.
• Knowledge of remote sensing.
