Description:
BETA Technology Center is formed by a young multidisciplinary team of 80 researchers and is looking to incorporate a dynamic person eager to be part of this project. We are looking for a field and laboratory technician who will support researchers in the area of Applied Ecology and Global Change in several competitive and transfer projects focused on applied ecology in both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. We are looking for a person with the desire and ability to become the Unit’s reference technician.
Functions and tasks:
- Field sampling.
- Characterization of biological and physicochemical samples of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.
- Support in carrying out laboratory experiments in the Aquatic Ecolab (artificial rivers, aquariums, artificial ponds).
- Monitoring of pilot plants installed in wastewater treatment plants and farms, processing of samples by nucleic acid extraction and microbiological characterization.
- Support for citizen science projects in the area.
Requirements
Decree of homologation of the degrees of the Research Teaching Staff and the Administration and Services Staff.
Based on Royal Decree 899/2022, persons who apply for the positions of Research Teaching Staff (PDI) and/or Administration and Services Staff (PAS) must present the homologation of the degrees issued abroad, since this is the one that enables them to exercise a regulated profession in Spain.
The group of Research Staff is exempt from this resolution.
- Intermediate Level Training Cycle in the field of Laboratory, Environmental Sciences or equivalent.
- Accreditation of the level of Catalan proficiency (Level C1) or being in conditions to obtain it.
- Accreditation of English level B2 or be able to obtain it.
- Experience in direct field and laboratory work in the field of Ecology.
- Previous experience in other laboratories preferably in the field of environmental sciences or biotechnologies and in the field of research.
- Knowledge of classical analytical techniques for the characterization of samples in water, sediment and biological matrices of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.
Merits
- University Degree in: Ecology, Biology, Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences or similar.
- Previous experience in conducting controlled experiments in micro and mesocosms.
- Previous experience in field sampling in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.
- Experience in bioinformatics and molecular biology.
- Experience in sampling and recognition of macroinvertebrates in freshwater systems.
- Experience in structural and functional characterization techniques of microbial communities in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.
- Experience in ecotoxicology and experimental design for ecological impact assessment.
- Knowledge of Instrumental Analytical Chemistry, mainly: Ion Chromatography, Gas Chromatography, Atomic Absorption, Instrumental Combustion Techniques.
