Description:
The BETA Technology Centre is made up of a young multidisciplinary team of more than 80 researchers and seeks to incorporate a dynamic person who wants to be part of this project.
We are looking for a field technician who will become part of the team of the Sustainable Agricultural and Food Systems Unit of the BETA Technology Center of the UVIC.
Functions and duties:
More specifically, the tasks to be carried out by the selected candidate are: field sampling, management of soil and plant biomass samples, evaluation of the state of crops in the field and in greenhouses and relationship with farmers, within the framework of different European and national projects focused on obtaining resilient agricultural systems to guarantee food security, improve soil health and seek strategies to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change on agriculture.

Requirements

Spanish Decree on recognition of qualifications of teaching and research staff, and service staff

According to Spanish Royal Decree 889/2022, those who apply for teaching and research staff (PDI) or service staff (PAS) posts should have any qualifications issued abroad officially recognised in Spain, since such approval qualifies for the exercise of regulated professions in Spain. Research-only staff are exempt from this requirement.

  • Vocational training: Intermediate Level Training Cycle in the field of Soil Sciences or equivalent.
  • Certification of Level C1 in Catalan or commitment to obtain it.
  • Accreditation of Level B2 English or commitment to obtain it.
  • The candidate is required to have previously worked in agricultural field and crop management.
  • The candidate is required to have previously worked in greenhouse crop management.
  • The candidate is required to have knowledge of classical laboratory analytical techniques (gravimetry and volumetry).

Merits

• University Degree in: Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy, Biotechnology, Plant Production, Environmental Sciences or similar
• Previous experience in soil sampling in the field
• Experience in working directly with farmers and/or livestock farmers.
• Experience in characterization of samples and fertilizer products
• Knowledge of Instrumental Analytical Chemistry, mainly: Ion Chromatography, Gas Chromatography, Atomic Absorption, Instrumental Combustion Techniques.
