Description:
The BETA Technology Centre is made up of a young multidisciplinary team of 130 researchers and is looking to recruit a dynamic individual who is keen to be part of this adventure.
We are looking for a Senior Technician with experience in activities related to the implementation of measures for climate change adaptation and mitigation, who will join the Sustainable Agricultural and Food Systems Unit at the BETA Technology Centre of the UVIC.
The successful candidate will participate in several European and national projects related to soil health restoration, increased biodiversity and agrosystem productivity.
Specifically, they will play an important role in the TransforMed (PRIMA) project, which supports the implementation and promotion of successful agroforestry systems in saline and degraded areas to maintain soil health.

Functions and duties:
• Planning and execution of physicochemical, biochemical, biotechnological and/or microbiological laboratory tests for the agronomic evaluation of climate change adaptation and mitigation measures.
• Planning and execution of field experiments on the application of climate change adaptation and mitigation measures.
• Development of new soil analysis methodologies.
• Technical management of competitive R&D projects with multiple stakeholders.
• Participation in the development of new project proposals to attract new funding.

Requirements

Decree on the approval of qualifications of teaching and research staff, and professional service staff

According to Spanish Royal Decree 889/2022 (Reial Decret 889/2022), official recognition of qualifications issued abroad may grant access to regulated professions in Spain.

If you apply for a teaching and research staff (PDI) or 100% research staff (PI) post, and do not have official recognition of the qualification required in the call, you should submit a declaration of equivalence, together with a Spanish translation of your degree certificate. You can also submit your equivalence declaration application, undertaking to submit the official equivalence declaration within 3 years. (Non-compliance will lead to termination of your employment contract, in accordance with Article 49b of Spanish Royal Decree 2/2015 of 23 October, approving the revised text of the Workers’ Statute.)

If you apply for a professional service staff post (PTGAS) without official recognition of the university degree required in the call, you should submit a declaration of equivalence, together with a Spanish translation of your degree certificate. You can also submit an equivalence declaration application, undertaking to submit the official equivalence declaration within 3 years. (Non-compliance will lead to termination of your employment contract, in accordance with Article 49b of Spanish Royal Decree 2/2015 of 23 October, approving the revised text of the Workers’ Statute.) If you submit a non-university qualification, you should submit an official recognition certificate, conforming to the specific regulations for your country of origin.

  • Title Advanced Vocational Training in fields relevant to the position.
  • Certification of Level C1 in Catalan or commitment to obtain it.
  • Accreditation of Level B2 English or commitment to obtain it.
  • Experience with biochemical, biotechnological and/or microbiological methods.
  • Experience in field trials and collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
  • Scientific publications in the proposed field of research.
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral) and ability to work independently and with internal and external teams in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments.

Merits

• Degree or Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Soil Science, Geography, Biotechnology, Plant Production, Environmental Sciences or similar.
• PhD in Agronomy, Geography, Soil Science, Biotechnology or similar.
• Knowledge of digital agriculture and/or precision agriculture and experience in GIS (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIs).
• Previous experience in the preparation and execution of competitive R&D projects (Horizon Europe, LIFE, Interreg, Prima, etc.).
