CT BETA hosts for a week a delegation of Italian livestock farmers visiting Catalonia

This activity has been framed within the activity of the Italian operational group "PIGS IN REGULATION"

The BETA Technology Centre of the UVic-UCC has hosted and accompanied a delegation of Italian livestock professionals who, during this week, between 20 and 24 March, visited several companies in central Catalonia. The aim of the group on the mission is to learn from good practices and success stories in the Catalan agri-food sector, focusing largely on innovative solutions for the management of livestock manure on farms. This activity has been framed within the activity of the Italian operational group “PIGS IN REGULATION – Reduction of the emission of pollutants into water by the pig sector through adherence to environmental certification processes”.

During the visit, the Italian delegation toured the BETA Technology Centre and various companies and livestock facilities in central Catalonia, such as Mecánicas Segalés and the Murucuc farm, in Gurb; the pilot plant of the European FERTIMANURE project, in Muntanyola; Ammoneva, in Navàs; Porgas 2010, in Cassà de la Selva; Can Barrina, in Santa Cecilia de Voltregà, and Mas el Camp, in Taradell. The visit will end in Lleida with a meeting with the Diputació de Lleida and Akis International.

The BETA Technology Centre was selected to host the Italian delegation because of its position and relevance in the agri-food sector, both locally and internationally. The Centro Ricerche Produzioni Animali (CRPA) contacted the technology centre to organise the mission, financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Programma di Sviluppo Rurale dell’Emilia-Romagna.

CT BETA hopes that these visits will serve to promote the transfer of knowledge, and to establish future alliances and collaborations between Italian and Catalan professionals.
