Sustainable development of biogas and biomethane in Catalonia

Biogas is rising as a key renewable energy in Europe, driven by climate and geopolitical challenges highlighting the need for energy self-sufficiency.

The growth of biogas as a renewable energy source is a reality on a European scale, and Catalonia is no exception. The climate emergency is already beginning to take its toll. Drought, increasingly high temperatures and episodes of downpours have highlighted the immediate need for an ecological transition, in which the energy vector plays a major role. Moreover, the current geopolitical context and the instability of fossil fuel prices have highlighted the need to meet the challenge of energy self-sufficiency.

The Bioenergy Cluster of Catalonia, together with Envolta and the Beta Technology Centre (UVic-UCC) have presented the project “Biogàs Impulsa’t”, which aims to promote the biogas sector in Catalonia. The project consists of an informative guide and a video which also presents success stories of biogas plants in Catalonia.
