Presentation of the new Waste Cluster of Catalonia
The waste sector in Catalonia is made up of 693 companies that generate 1,000 million euros in revenue and employ 41,000 workers
Yesterday, Wednesday, Cosmocaixa in Barcelona hosted the presentation of the new Waste Cluster of Catalonia, a new initiative jointly promoted by the Waste Agency of Catalonia and ACCIÓ with the aim of bringing together all the Catalan actors involved in the waste treatment and recovery sector. One of the founding partners of this new cluster will be the UVic-UCC, which will participate through the BETA Technology Centre. The presentation of the cluster, on behalf of the University, was attended by the Vice-Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer, Eva Espasa.
The waste sector in Catalonia is made up of 693 companies that generate 1,000 million euros in revenue and employ 41,000 workers. This new cluster should improve the coordination of the main actors that make it up, to encourage them to work in a coordinated way and with common objectives. Among other things, it aims to improve their competitiveness, promote R&D projects and open up new markets. It is envisaged that it will be able to cover the entire value chain of the waste industry, from its origin to its management and end of life.
The official launch of the Waste Cluster has been possible after a long process of constitution and dynamisation, with an action plan led by a technical team from ACCIÓ and the Waste Agency of Catalonia. For CT BETA, this new space will mean reinforcing many of the relationships it already has with some of the main public and private actors related to waste management in Catalonia.
