Roger Vall Capella

Researcher

Roger Vall Capella is a biologist specialising in terrestrial ecology and biodiversity management. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) and an MSc in Terrestrial Ecology and Biodiversity Management from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). His work focuses on nature conservation, wildlife monitoring and the management of natural areas.

Throughout his career, he has contributed to a range of biodiversity conservation and monitoring projects, both professionally and through environmental volunteering. He has worked at the Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC) with the biodiversity management team, and has participated in bat monitoring projects (Endesabats), bird ringing and monitoring programmes with the Catalan Institute of Ornithology (ICO), and nocturnal raptor conservation initiatives with the Catalan Institution of Natural History (ICHN) and the Grup de Naturalistes d’Osona (GNO). He has also collaborated in wildlife surveys coordinated by the Rural Agents and serves on the board of the Garrotxa Naturalist and Environmental Association.

His expertise includes geographic information systems (QGIS, ArcGIS, MiraMon and Google Earth Engine), data analysis using R and Python, and modelling tools applied to ecological research. Combined with his training in caving, this provides him with a strong technical profile and extensive experience in fieldwork, biodiversity monitoring and the sustainable management of ecosystems.
