Job description
We are seeking a Field and Laboratory Assistant to support researchers in the Applied Ecology and Global Change Unit on various competitive and knowledge transfer projects focused on applied ecology in both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.
We are looking for someone with the drive and ability to become the Unit’s go-to assistant.
-Field sampling.
-Assisting with the characterisation of biological and physicochemical samples from aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.
-Taking part in laboratory experiments at the Aquatic Ecology Laboratory Ecolab(artificial rivers, aquariums, artificial ponds).
-Assisting with the monitoring of pilot plants installed at wastewater treatment plants and farms.
-Assist with sample processing for nucleic acid extraction and microbiological characterisation.
-Support / Collaborate on citizen science projects in the area.
Requirements
Decree on recognition of qualifications of teaching and research staff and professional services staff
According to Spanish Royal Decree 889/2022, recognition of qualifications issued abroad qualifies for the exercise of regulated professions in Spain.
If you apply for a professional services staff (PTGAS) post without the required recognised university degree, you may submit a declaration of equivalence of your degree in Spain, together with a translation of the degree into Spanish. The application for this declaration is also valid, subject to a commitment to submit the declaration of equivalence itself within a period of 3 years at most. If the requirement is not met within this period, the contract will be terminated in accordance with Article 49 (b) of Spanish Royal Legislative Decree 2/2015, of 23rd October, approving the revised text of the Workers’ Statute.
If you hold a recognised Spanish master’s degree, you may qualify for hiring, but this will not exempt you from the requirement to submit a declaration of equivalence of the qualification in the call.
If you submit a non-university qualification, when call provisions allow for this, you should include recognition of the qualification in accordance with the specific regulatory framework of the country of origin.
- Certification of Level C1 in Catalan or commitment to obtain it.
- Accreditation of Level B2 English or commitment to obtain it.
- Experience of field and laboratory work in the field of ecology.
- Candidates are required to have previous experience working in other laboratories, preferably in the field of environmental science or biotechnology, and in a research setting.
- Candidatess are required to have knowledge of classical analytical techniques for the characterisation of samples from aquatic, sedimentary and biological matrices in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.
Merits

• Previous experience in conducting controlled experiments in micro- and mesocosms
• Previous experience in field sampling in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems
• Experience in bioinformatics and molecular biology
• Experience in sampling and identifying macroinvertebrates in freshwater systems
• Experience in techniques for the structural and functional characterisation of microbial communities in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems
• Experience in ecotoxicology and experimental design for assessing ecological impacts.
