Job description

The BETA Technological Centre is made up of a young, multidisciplinary team of more than 150 researchers, and is looking to incorporate a dynamic person who is eager to become part of this project. The selected candidate will join the ‘sustainability accounting and optimisation’ team at the BETA Technological Centre as the scientific lead for tasks related to the sustainability assessment of several European projects, as well as some technology‑transfer projects with companies. We are looking for a specialist in sustainability assessment (economic, social, and environmental), including life cycle assessment (LCA) as a core tool, in one of the following areas: i) analysis of new technologies and modelling of industrial processes; and/or ii) analysis of agri‑food systems.

 

Functions and duties:
• Main executor and responsible for the sustainability assessment tasks of several European projects.
• Scientific coordinator and lead for technology transfer projects with companies.
• Promotion and development of new projects with companies.
• Preparation and submission of new proposals to secure additional European funding.

Requirements

Decree on recognition of qualifications of teaching and research staff and professional services staff

According to Spanish Royal Decree 889/2022, recognition of qualifications issued abroad qualifies for the exercise of regulated professions in Spain.

If you apply for a professional services staff (PTGAS) post without the required recognised university degree, you may submit a declaration of equivalence of your degree in Spain, together with a translation of the degree into Spanish. The application for this declaration is also valid, subject to a commitment to submit the declaration of equivalence itself within a period of 3 years at most. If the requirement is not met within this period, the contract will be terminated in accordance with Article 49 (b) of Spanish Royal Legislative Decree 2/2015, of 23rd October, approving the revised text of the Workers’ Statute.

If you hold a recognised Spanish master’s degree, you may qualify for hiring, but this will not exempt you from the requirement to submit a declaration of equivalence of the qualification in the call.

If you submit a non-university qualification, when call provisions allow for this, you should include recognition of the qualification in accordance with the specific regulatory framework of the country of origin.

  • Title: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical engineering, biotechnology, biology, environmental sciences, economics or similar.
  • Certification of Level C1 in Catalan or commitment to obtain it.
  • Accreditation of Level B2 English or commitment to obtain it.
  • Advanced knowledge in life cycle assessment software, especially OpenLCA (also Gabi, SimaPro or Brightway).
  • Advanced knowledge of life cycle assessment methodologies
  • Knowledge of economic analysis and the transfer of new technologies

Merits

• PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biology, Environmental Sciences, Economics, or related fields.
• Previous experience in carrying out projects with the private sector.
• Experience in participating in European projects.
• Knowledge of chemical engineering modelling software (such as Aspen Plus and/or SuperPro Designer).
• Programming skills (in R, Python, others).
• Knowledge in data processing and the development of inventories in the agri food sector.
