Job description

The BETA Technological Center is composed of a young, dynamic, and highly multidisciplinary team of more than 150 researchers. To further strengthen our scientific and innovation activities, we are seeking to incorporate a candidate with strong leadership skills, strategic vision, and motivation to contribute to the growth and impact of the center.
The selected candidate will join the “Sustainability Accounting and Optimization” Team as a Scientific Lead, taking responsibility for sustainability assessment activities across several European projects, as well as for knowledge‑transfer projects with private‑sector partners. The role offers flexibility to engage in different research domains or to leverage experience in industry collaborations and consultancy.
Functions and duties:
• Lead the execution of European research projects and knowledge transfer initiatives with private sector partners.
• Manage research teams, including supervision, coordination, and task planning.
• Drive the strategic development of the center’s scientific and technological positioning in the field of sustainability.
• Identify and promote new funding opportunities, including competitive European and national calls, as well as technology transfer and consultancy projects.
• Lead the preparation of project proposals and the formation of consortia to secure new funding.
• Represent the center in scientific and technological forums, expert groups, and clusters, and disseminate research results at conferences, technical events, and sector specific meetings.

Requirements

Decree on recognition of qualifications of teaching and research staff and professional services staff

According to Spanish Royal Decree 889/2022, recognition of qualifications issued abroad qualifies for the exercise of regulated professions in Spain.

If you apply for a professional services staff (PTGAS) post without the required recognised university degree, you may submit a declaration of equivalence of your degree in Spain, together with a translation of the degree into Spanish. The application for this declaration is also valid, subject to a commitment to submit the declaration of equivalence itself within a period of 3 years at most. If the requirement is not met within this period, the contract will be terminated in accordance with Article 49 (b) of Spanish Royal Legislative Decree 2/2015, of 23rd October, approving the revised text of the Workers’ Statute.

If you hold a recognised Spanish master’s degree, you may qualify for hiring, but this will not exempt you from the requirement to submit a declaration of equivalence of the qualification in the call.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical engineering, biotechnology, biology, environmental sciences, economics or similar.
  • Certification of Level C1 in Catalan or commitment to obtain it.
  • Accreditation of Level B2 English or commitment to obtain it.
  • Advanced knowledge in life cycle assessment software, especially OpenLCA (also Gabi, SimaPro or Brightway).
  • Previous experience in the implementation of projects with the private sector.
  • Advanced knowledge in Life Cycle Analysis methodologies (consequential, PEF, etc.)
  • Participation in R&D European Projects
  • Strategic, systemic and dynamic vision.
  • Ability to work under pressure and subject to deadlines.

Merits

– PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biology, Environmental Sciences, Economics, or related fields.
– Knowledge of chemical engineering modelling software (such as Aspen Plus and/or SuperPro Designer).
– Knowledge of programming (in R, Python, others) and AI (ChatGPT, Claude).
– Knowledge of economic analysis and technology transfer.
– Knowledge of data processing and the development of inventories in the agri-food sector.
– Experience in team leadership.
