Ricard Carreras joins the European Commission’s Group of Experts on Organic Production

This appointment consolidates the CT BETA as a reference center on a European scale in agri-food sustainability.

Ricard Carreras, head of the Transfer and Territorial and Sectoral Projects team at the BETA Technology Centre of the University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC), has recently been appointed a member of the European Commission’s Expert Group on Organic Production (EGTOP) for the next four years.

The EGTOP (Expert Group for Technical Advice on Organic Production) is the permanent body that advises European institutions on organic production and organic farming regulations. It provides technical support in the development, review and updating of sector legislation, ensuring that the regulations are effective, proportionate and aligned with scientific and technical developments. Among other functions, it evaluates and issues criteria on substances, methods and techniques that can be used in organic production.

During this term, Ricard Carreras will be part of the EGTOP together with twelve other experts from various European countries, which will allow the technical vision and needs of the Catalan and European organic sector to be present in the debates and proposals that guide the evolution of this key regulation.

This appointment consolidates the CT BETA as a reference center on a European scale in agri-food sustainability, which combines applied research, technical advice and advocacy in public policies, with a strong connection to the territory and the productive reality of the country.

Presence of the CT BETA in European advisory bodies

The incorporation into the EGTOP is part of a consolidated trajectory of the CT BETA in European advisory bodies and working groups, which allow its researchers to connect research, practice and regulation.

In the field of circular bioeconomy, the center is part of the reference working group of the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) oriented to the primary sector, with the participation of Sergio Ponsá and Laia Llenas.

On the other hand, the CT BETA is also represented in the Technical Advisory Board on the Environmental Footprint of the European Commission, through Jorge Senán, who participates in the subgroup focused on the agricultural sector.
